Gen Con Games Recap: Part 1

Hello my Meeples Peoples! As many of you know, not only did we host our very first Pop-Up Gen Con, but Garrett and I went to Indianapolis to be there in person. Between Pop-Up Gen Con and Gen Con Indy, we have a bunch of new library games that we want to showcase! Because we have so many new ones, this will be broken into two parts for ease of reading. All of these games are currently in our library to play and most are in store to purchase!

Bayou Bash-Wyrd Miniatures

2-4 Players, 30+ Mins

Bayou Bash is a chaotic racing game for 2-4 players filled with rambunctious racers who will do anything to win over the most fans before crossing the finish line. Each player takes control of a racer with unique abilities, and must battle for victory across the customizable track while gaining fans along the way. In Bayou Bash, it’s not about who crosses the finish line first, but who pulls off the craziest tricks during the race!

Taco Bell Party Pack Card Game-Ravensburger

2-6 players, 20 mins

In Taco Bell Party Pack Card Game, players gather various kinds of Taco Bell menu items, including crunchy tacos, bean burritos and Freezes, in an attempt to feed a crew of Taco Bell fans. Each member of a player’s crew comes with specific cravings that need to be sated and doing so earns crave chips — tokens that look like tortilla chips and that have a surprise amount of points to reveal at the end of the game. Players can also use “sauce cards” to help snag food items and win.

Kabuto Sumo-Boardgametables.com

2-4 players, 15 mins

Kabuto Sumo is not currently for sale at the store, but we love it so much we are hoping to be able to carry it soon!

In Kabuto Sumo, you are one of the contending beetles that is battling for supremacy in the ring and your place in the pantheon of legendary wrestlers. The gameplay of Kabuto Sumo resembles the coin-pusher arcade games in which you strategically drop quarters and anxiously anticipate coins cascading off the platform. This game features a similar experience, with you trying to strategically slide pieces onto the board and push the other players out of the ring. It’s an exciting combination of dexterity, strategy, and luck.

Mickey and Friends Food Fight! – The Op Games

3-5 players, 15+ mins

It’s a carefree day at the beach with your favorite Disney friends-that’s it, until it’s time for lunch! Fresh from the Snack Shack, Mickey and Donald race to serve Minnie and Daisy, but Goofy steps in and trips them, and soon enough, everyone is wearing their meals! Get in on a chaos of concessions by tossing hamburgers, shakes, fries and other treats at your friends to clear your food tray the fastest! Earn Mickey Medals for splattering opponents with the most snacks and be the first with three to win the Disney Mickey and Friends Food Fight!

Funkoverse-Funko Games

2-4 players, 60 mins

In the Funkoverse Strategy Game, you combine your favorite characters and go head-to-head in four exciting game scenarios. Use your characters’ unique abilities to gain points and achieve victory! Funkoverse has been around, but we were able to pick up an awesome Game of Thrones one for the library!

Gravwell: 2nd Edition-Renegade Games

1-6 players, 45 mins

In Gravwell, players command spaceships that have been pulled through a black hole, transporting them into a different dimension. With each ship lacking fuel to get home, each player must collect basic elements from surrounding asteroids, using the gravity of the dimension and what little resources they have in order to reach the warp gate that will take them home. But in this dimension, moving ships will travel towards the nearest object, which is usually another ship, and when those objects are moving either forward or backward, reaching the warp gate isn’t always easy. Time is running out to save your crew and your ship! As a grim reminder of the cost of failing to escape, the frozen hulks of dead spacecraft litter the escape route — but with careful card play, you can slingshot past these derelict craft and be the first to escape from the Gravwell!
