Fossilis – Laura and Nichole
- Name of Game: Fossilis
- Rating (BGG): 7.6
- Publisher: Kids Table BG
- Year Published: 2020
Fossilis is a Set-Collection game where you are paleontologists attempting to unearth fossils in order to make dinosaurs. Points are available in a number of ways and the player with the most points is the winner. One of the things that makes me want to play this game is the amazing pieces. I’m always attracted to games with high quality pieces and this game doesn’t disappoint! It has little bones!! And Paleontologist Meeples and heavy plastic tiles and so many goodies! The First Player Marker is even a piece of amber – so cool! I love Set-Collection games with lots of ways to get points and Fossilis has this in spades. On your turn you can move your archaeologies, move or remove sand or clay tiles, dig, claim dinosaur cards, complete dinosaur cards and many other options. Y’all, it just looks so cool! Now that I’m writing this, I think I need to get myself a copy to take home tonight! –Laura Schneider
This game looks really cool, who doesn’t love dinosaurs? You get to dig around the site, trying to find the best stuff before your opponent, or even impeding them while you gather better supplies. The layout of it looks really nifty too, the way the pieces stack and can be shifted around, so that it really feels like you’re exploring a dig site. The rules seem pretty straightforward, you get two actions a turn to do your thing so the gameplay won’t drag from player to player. But that doesn’t mean the game seems too simple, there is an obvious depth of strategy to playing it that I think will probably scale pretty well with all levels of experience with gaming. –Nichole Davis
Magical Kitties Save the Day -Boyce
- Name of Game: Magical Kitties Save the Day
- Rating (BGG): N/A
- Publisher: Atlas Games
- Year Published: 2021
Magical Kitties is a new board game where the players take the role of cats protecting their human owners from dangerous supernatural forces. The game is an introduction to RPGs where one player will be the DM, controlling the supernatural forces, and the rest of the players will be the kitties. I am always up for a light-hearted cat game with silly villains that does not take itself too seriously. Featuring bright, colorful artwork depicting the feline heroes further increases my hype for the game. So go on, and protect your humans from those sinister dangers. –Boyce Asquith
- Name of Game: Pan Am
- Rating (BGG): 7.8
- Publisher: Funko Games
- Year Published: 2020
Pan Am mixes the route claiming from Ticket to Ride with a new biding aspect that makes this game seem really fun. Players must bid for landing rights, buy planes that can go further than anyone else and use other connections to create an air travel empire! If your routes are good enough, you can sell them to Pan Am. This game seems really interesting to me, I love Ticket to Ride and this seems like a step up in difficulty but not so hard that it scares new gamers away. Plus if I can’t travel right now, at least I can create the best in game travel routes! –Dani Kennedy
Who doesn’t love a new board game? Surprise your Valentine, Galentine or Palentine with a board or card game. Here’s our top picks that are perfect for 2 players (and maybe more).
2 Player Games
Ankh’or is a quick-playing resource management game in which each player on their turn either collects three types of tokens (with an ankh being a supplemental resource) or buys a tile from a marketplace and adds this tile to their structure, trying to connect tiles of the same color or bearing the same scarab while doing so. By spending an ankh, you can shift tiles in the marketplace and change the cost and type of goods needed to purchase them.
Harry Potter™ Hogwarts™ Battle Defence Against the Dark Arts is a competitive deck-building game for two players, inspired by Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle. In this fast-paced game, players take turns playing cards, taking actions and acquiring new cards to build a more powerful deck as their defensive skills improve. Stun your opponent three times to win!
In Stellar, you are stargazers, calibrating your telescopes to bring into view celestial objects of various types — planets, moons, asteroids, interstellar clouds, black holes, even satellites — as you create a beautiful display of the night sky!

Unmatched is a highly asymmetrical miniature fighting game for two or four players. Each hero is represented by a unique deck designed to evoke their style and legend. Tactical movement and no-luck combat resolution create a unique play experience that rewards expertise, but just when you’ve mastered one set, new heroes arrive to provide all new match-ups. We carry a lot of the different Unmatched games. These games scale great for 2-4 players!
Splendor is a game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you’re wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige.
Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). This amazing game plays from 1-5 players and is perfect at all levels!

Nichole Davis-Charms and Potions Expansion for Hogwarts Battle
- Name of Game/Expansion: Charms and Potions Expansion for Hogwarts Battle
- Publisher: The OP
- Year Published: 2020
- Type of Game: Co-op Deckbuilder
- Difficulty: Easy-Medium depending on how many people are playing
- Play Time: 30-45 min
- Number of Players: 2-5
- Bits: Great!
- Overall Rating: 5 Meeples
I really like this expansion to my favorite game of all time. It adds in two new components: Charms and a Potions Cupboard. Each player gets a new ability (a Charm) that they slot to the top of their player board that gives them a new ability that changes depending on their current health, there are a lot of them included in the box so there is lots of variety to mix up play throughs. The Potions Cupboard gets placed next to the main board and you need to meet certain conditions (play 3 spells, heal another player, ect.) to get ingredients for it to brew potions that can be added to your deck or discarded from the game for an additional effect. There are also new events added to up the difficulty that act somewhat like the Horcruxes from the main game. I’ve been having a lot of fun with this expansion, it’s really nifty when you manage to brew a potion and the element of trying to keep your health in a certain range to use a specific Charm ability add a lot to the already fun gameplay of the original. It also meshes very well with the Monster Box of Monsters expansion and I can’t wait to see what they come up with for the next one!

Catch the Moon is a manual dexterity game where the players take on the role of dreamers reaching for the moon. Each player rolls a die that dictates how they will place their ladder on the growing tower of ladders. But beware, failing to place your ladder as the die dictates will cost you a tear. Dani Kennedy- Letter Tycoon
- Name of Game/Expansion: Letter Tycoon
- Publisher: Breaking Games
- Year Published: 2015
- Type of Game: Economic/Word Game
- Difficulty: Medium
- Play Time: 30 mins
- Number of Players: 2-5

Letter Tycoon is Scrabble meets the best parts of Monopoly! Each player starts with 7 letter cards in their hand and on their turn using those cards plus 3 public letters they spell a word. Players score money and stock options based on their word. Players can use their money to patent letters, if patented every time that letter is used the patent holder earns money from the bank!
I am usually terrible at word spelling games. But this one is super fast and easy to play. I love the steampunk styled cards and the overall play style. Will you earn enough to make yourself the Letter Tycoon?
